here is your chance to prove that you know more about college football then anyone else(especially that one person that thinks they know everything and constantly runs their mouth, you know who you are) to become the ONE TRU CHAMPION. All you have to do is compete in this years ONE TRU CHAMPION tournament and show us your stuff. Just imagine having those bragging rights for a whole year!!! I'm sure that would already be enough of a victory in itself but if you do happen to finish in the top 3 at the end of the year the rewards are even more lucrative! With payouts happening before Christmas and the honor of being the best for another year it is the perfect ending to 2016. So are you ready to show the world what you are made of? See all of you on September 3rd and good luck!
Quick guide:
Every week (usually Tuesdays) everyone will be given a list of 10 college football games chosen by ESPN and All you have to do is pick a winner for each of the games listed. After that you will rank each one of those games by how confident you are in the teams you picked and their victories using the numbers 1-10. You can only use each of the 10 numbers once so choose wisely. For every winning team you chose correctly you will gain the number of confidence points (ranging from 1-10) that you bet on that particular game. Once all 10 games have ended your confidence points gained through only correct picks will be tallied thus giving you your score for that week. A perfect card (picking all 10 winners for each game) will gain you 55 points that week and points will accumulate for 14 weeks till the season has ended. At the end of the year the participant with the highest score in the group is the champ!
We will be using ESPN college pick'em. It can be accessed through the ESPN app or you can go directly to ESPN.com and search under Fantasy games. When signing up you will be given two options of play:
STRAIGHT or CONFIDENCE
Be sure to select the option "CONFIDENCE" to participate in the OTC2016 Challenge. The premise of the game is simple; each week you will be given 10 NCAA football games that ESPN chooses and you must pick who you believe will triumph.
Example:
Teams Pick
Penn State Nittany Lions ◻️
Vs
Ohio State Buckeyes #5 ◻️
______________________________ __________
Teams Pick
Penn State Nittany Lions ☑️
Vs
Ohio State Buckeyes #5 ◻️
Once you have picked all ten games you must rank them in order of your opinion on their likelihood to win the game. From there, you will be using the numbers 1-10 only once each and ranking the games in order of how confident you are that the team you picked will win. 10 representing the most confident in the team and 1 representing the least confident. Example shown:
Teams Pick Points
Penn State Nittany Lions ☑️
Vs. 🔟
Ohio State Buckeyes #5 ◻️
______________________________ __________
Florida State Seminoles #4 ☑️
Vs. 7⃣
Virginia Tech Hookies ◻️
______________________________ __________
Alabama Crimson Tide #1 ◻️
Vs. 1⃣
Auburn Tigers ☑️
______________________________ __________
This game bases on who gets the most points each week and overall who has the most points at the end of the year. To get those points all you have to do is correctly pick a game and you will win the amount of confidence points that you ranked for that game.
Example:
Teams Pick Points
Penn State Nittany Lions ✅
Vs 🔟
Ohio State Buckeyes #5 ◻️
For getting that pick correct you would be awarded 10 points. The topmost points you can get in a single week is 55. That outcome would demonstrate that you chose all 10 games correctly;and received all the points 1-10. If you do not pick the winning team correctly you will not receive any points for that particular game. This shows why it is important to put more points on games you feel confident on and less points on games you are not confident on, or close games or even if you want to pick an upset. We all know college football is full of those. The duration of the tournament is 14 weeks and at the end of the year the person with the most combined points from each week wins. Since it is stretched out over 14 weeks it means anything can change. College football is an amazingly crazy sport and just one week can shake things up so point swings can happen any week and will. Each week a new list of 10 games will be released by ESPN usually on Monday so you have a whole week to look over your games. You must fill out ALL 10 GAMES AND HIT SUBMIT to make sure your choices have been accepted. A message will also confirm they have been submitted. The games lock 15 mins before the scheduled start of the first game (which is usually noon) and once it locks you can not change or fill out any games if you have forgotten to do so. You will not gain any points for that week if you don't fill out your picks so its a good idea to have them submitted by Friday night. This is controlled by ESPN so there is no way for us to make any changes. If you forget to fill out your picks, you lose the points and that's on you. All 10 football games will be played on Saturday and should not start before noon on that day.
Now that you know how the game is played here is the way the ONE TRU CHAMPION tournament works. Each week we will take everyones results from ESPN's College PICK'EM and rank them in order from first to last based on points earned for that individual week.
Example:
______________________________ __________
Dues will be collected the week after the end of the season once the final games have been played and the official standings decided. The tournament consists of 14 weeks starting on September 3rd and ending on December 3rd. After the 14 weeks have ended the top 3 participants that have accumulated the most points will win! The pot will be split as follows:
Winning % of the pot
1st: 60%
2nd: 25%
3rd: 15%
On the same premise as before with 18 players the results would look like this:
Winnings
1st: $302
2nd: $126
3rd: $76
TIEBREAKERS:
Of course this year will be very competitive and we are bound to end up having a few ties along the way. There are only two instances where a tie could affect play so we will address both and the solutions.
1. What happens if at the end of the year there is a tie for any position in the top 3?
A. The participant in the tie with the most correct picks over the 14 weeks of the tournament will be declared the winner of the tie. That player would take whatever position the tie resulted from while the other would move one spot below into the next ranking.
2. What happens if at the end of a single week there are two or more players with the same amount of points for that week?
A: Using the last part of ESPN College PICK'EM to decide this; you can read an in depth description of how ESPN's tie breaker works on the rules page , here is a simpler solution: When filling out your 10 picks for the week there is a final game at the bottom they ask you to pick a final score for. This is one of the 10 games you have already picked as well so all you have to do is put in both teams final scores for that game.
Example shown:
______________________________ __________
TIEBREAKER
Penn State Nittany [42]
enter your Lions
predicted Ohio State Buckeyes #5 [17]
final score.
SUBMIT YOUR PICKS
______________________________ __________
Once you have completed all of your picks and have also filled out the tiebreaker score you will hit the submit button and that's it. As for the tie breaker, at the end of a single week if 2 or more participants have the same amount of points affecting the order of dues then we will use the ESPN tiebreaker. ESPN will then take the final score you predicted and compare it to the final score that happened for that game. Then they take the difference in points between each teams actual score and your own predicted score and add the two numbers together. The resulting number is your tiebreaker number.
Example:
Predicted score Actual score
PSU 42 PSU 34
OSU 17 OSU 24
PSU's difference in points is: 8
OSU's difference in points is: 7
Added together: 15
Making 15 the tiebreaker number. The participant with the lowest tiebreaker number will win the tie. That player would take whatever position the tie resulted from while the other would move one spot below into the next ranking.
ADDED BONUS FOR WINS:
As an extra incentive we have added this little bonus. Since this game is based on points earned during the week instead of just wins it can end up being frustrating when you get 9 out of 10 games correct but miss your 10 point game by some crazy upset no one saw coming. You end up placing 3rd or 4th place for the week when others had a few more wrong picks than you, but lost less points. Frustrating as it is; if for some reason at the end of the year the participant with the most overall wins is not ranked in the top 3 they will receive the MOST WINS BONUS. This will only come into play if by chance that participant does not finish 1st, 2nd or 3rd in over all points at the end of the year. If that participant DOES finish in the top 3 this reward is disregarded entirely. The most wins bonus will be 5% of the pot before the top 3 split. This usually results in the amount that the participant paid in dues over the 14 weeks or maybe a little extra. Therefore making the horrible luck of missing out on the top 3 prizes while having the most wins not sting too much.
Example:
End of the year pot: $504
Normal payout: Win Bonus payout:
1st- $302 5% for Most wins- $25
2nd-$126 1st- $287
3rd- $76 2nd-$120
3rd- $72
